actors Christopher Younggren (Ebenezer Scrooge) and Nate Marenfeld (Tiny Tim).

Arts Express’ A Christmas Carol & Dickens Festival is a Southern Arizona holiday tradition; returning to the Tucson Stage December 6th – 15th at the Berger Performing Arts Center. This celebrated musical theatre production captivates audiences with its brilliant cast, live orchestra and dazzling costumes.

The show stars Christopher Younggren (Ebenezer Scrooge), Dori Scholer (Ghost of Christmas Past), Anthony Allen Taylor (Cratchit), Karl Haas (Marley), Jesus Limon (Fred Anderson), Eric Aranda (Ghost of Christmas Present), Tara Petersen (Ghost of Christmas Future), and dozens more! Adapted from the Dickens classic, this musical features a brilliant score by Broadway heavy hitters Alan Menken (Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast) and Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Once on This Island, Seussical).

After premiering at the Paramount Theatre at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 1994, A Christmas Carol the musical made its television debut starring Kelsey Grammer as Ebenezer Scrooge.

Under the masterful direction of Susan Stokes and music direction by Martin Gaines, with choreography by Simone Jolivet-Manuel, this Arts Express production will fill audience members with the joy of the holiday season. “The perennially inspiring message of Charles Dicken’s story in ‘A Christmas Carol’ is one of the possibilities of change, and the power of hope,” says Susan Stokes, Director. “The main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, endures about every possible hardship in his younger life, and he reacts, predictably, in ways to protect himself by pulling away from others, both personally, and within his community. Through a series of fantastic visitations by four spirits, Scrooge is awakened to his isolation, and through awakened faith and hope, restored to a meaningful engagement with family, friends and his larger community.”

Upgrade for priority seating and a truly immersive experience: The Meet Charles Dickens Pre-show, where you’ll hear “first hand” how this intriguing author mixed real life inspirations with his vivid imagination to conjure up the unforgettable Christmas Carol characters. This is also a great way to get pre-seating for the show!

In addition to the musical, the merry old streets of London come to life once more at the Arts Express Dickens Festival! Enjoy free admission to the festival, holiday amusement, merry vendors, scrumptious food & treats, jolly musicians & caroling. Tucson’s favorite university area restaurant, Frog & Firkin, is the featured food vendor for the festival.
